Team 5 – ChemLingo

Interactive Chemistry in the Browser

As part of our project, we developed a browser extension that makes chemical information directly accessible on the web. The goal was to simplify the way complex chemical structures and formulas are presented and to connect them with practical functions for researchers.

The Idea

Many resources in chemistry today are shared as plain text or PDF documents. For researchers, this often means that structures must be transferred manually or opened in specialized software. Our solution tackles this challenge: ChemLingo automatically recognizes chemical content in the browser and displays it interactively.

Our Implementation

  • Browser Integration:
With a lightweight extension for Chrome/Edge, chemical data can be detected directly within websites or PDFs.
  • Interactive Visualization:
Chemical structures can be displayed in the browser window as formulas, molecular images, or even interactive canvas elements.
  • Conversion Tools:
With just a click, text inputs such as molecular formulas can be converted into SMILES or InChI notation.
  • User-Friendly Design:
We placed strong emphasis on a modern interface – including a search bar, copy-to-clipboard functionality, a „Magic-Mark“- feature and a clean layout.
